Education and Awareness Programs
Boorndawan Willam Aboriginal Healing Service facilitates a number of different education and awareness campaigns throughout the wider community. Below are some examples of our recent activities. Feel free to contact us if you would like to participate in anything similar or have opportunities for BWAHS to advocate for a healthy Indigenous community.
"Our Past, Our Present and Our Future" Understanding Aboriginal Family Violence Workshops
These workshops focused on providing participants from mainstream service sectors with an understanding of trans-generational trauma and the impact of historicity on Victorian Aboriginal people. Participants learnt about how and why family violence in the Indigenous Community is unique from mainstream community and how methods to address it need to be formed in a culturally respectful way.
They were encouraged to acknowledge personal values and how they impact on their work sitations as demonstrate application of this learning on how they work with families impacted by violence. The workshops allowed for fantastic networking and enabled participants to see how they could work with Boorndawan Willam in a professional relationship.
